In connection with Frida Benzon's trip to South Africa to work as a model for a couple of months, we were lucky to meet up with her and have a little talk about her football career and the path to it, as well as the significance that the sport has had and continues to have for her.
Frida Benzon is a Danish model and professional street football player, and alongside her modeling career, street football constitutes a significant part of her life. We therefore asked Frida to share her thoughts on the importance of football for her.
"Street football has always meant a lot to me. I feel like I can be 100% myself when I play. The special thing about street football is that you have the opportunity to develop your own unique style, which also means that there is no right or wrong way to play."
Frida started her football career at an early age, and already in kindergarten, she was very passioned about football. However, it was not always easy to be a girl in a sport that is primarily dominated by boys. Her kindergarten teacher opposed the idea of Frida playing football simply because she was a girl. However, this did not stop Frida, who instead became even more motivated to play football.
"In kindergarten, my teacher did not want me to play football because I was a girl - but that just made me want to play football even more."
